Courtenay Crane is Saulteaux, a member of the Key First Nation in Treaty 4 Territory in Saskatchewan. She is bear clan, and an Anishinaabemowin language learner. She spent most of her life in Vancouver, and currently lives on the Sunshine Coast. She has a B.A. from the University of British Columbia, with a double major in First Nations Studies and Geography, and a diploma in Film Production from Vancouver Film School. Courtenay has always worked in creative positions and is interested in using storytelling to create social and environmental change. Some of her former experience includes working as a Media Manager on Decolonizing Water, a research project based at the University of British Columbia. In this role, she created short documentaries about Indigenous water protection initiatives and language revitalization. She worked as a Producer at CTV First Story, where she had the opportunity to travel to several Indigenous communities while reporting on underrepresented issues. Courtenay is thrilled to be a part of the amazing team of people at FNHIC, working to improve housing and infrastructure for First Nations in BC. Courtenay loves hiking, kayaking and scuba diving and is often out in nature with a camera in her hands.
