Brianna Wilson is fulfilling the Youth Member role at FNHIC. She is very excited to learn from the rest of the Council members and gain professional experience. The youth member’s position is intended to be a developmental and mentoring position.

​Brianna is syilx (Okanagan) and a member of the Westbank First Nation, located in the Central Okanagan Valley in B.C’s interior.

​Her most recent employment is with the Assembly of First Nations as a Junior Policy Analyst. She worked for Westbank First Nation as the Intergovernmental Affairs Summer Student in 2018. In 2017 she served as Westbank First Nation’s (first ever) Council Intern.

​She is excited to expand her knowledge relating to First Nations housing and infrastructure. She knows safe and secure housing has a direct positive impact on the social determinates of health. Brianna also is aware that infrastructure not only increases the capacity for new developments but also ensures healthy and safe communities. Housing and infrastructure have always been an issue near and dear to her heart. Growing up she knows first-hand what it is like to live in a two-bedroom unit with 5 other people. Brianna’s family (immediate and extended) has been touched by the housing crisis for many years, so this drives her to be involved in the solution.

​Brianna is very active in her community. She is the Chair of the Westbank First Nation (WFN) Youth Council (YC). Brianna has held this position for just over three years. She enjoys the volunteer opportunities provided through the YC because she loved to give back to her community. WFN YC has provided Brianna with experience reviewing various policies and laws through a youth perspective. But, most of all she loves engaging with, learning from, and building relations with Chief and Council through local, regional, national, and international travel experiences offered through the Youth Council. She also holds the Youth Seat on the Westbank First Nation Economic Development Commission. She recently was reappointed for a second three-year term.

​Brianna is currently a second-year student at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan Campus (UBCO). She is studying and interested in a variety of subjects (political science, Indigenous studies, and sociology) and has yet to determine her Major. She plans to pursue higher education in the long-term future.
